SAN ANTONIO (AP) - An Army officer, his wife and his sister have been indicted today in San Antonio in a military bribes investigation.
The charges are bribery, conspiracy, money laundering and obstruction.
Investigators say the case involves bribes from Defense Department contractors in 2004 and 2005.
Major John Cockerham and his wife, Melissa Cockerham, are accused of taking at least $9.6 million in bribes while he was stationed in Kuwait.
The officer was responsible for contracts for DOD services, including bottled water for soldiers in Kuwait and Iraq.
The Cockerhams were arrested last month at Fort Sam Houston, where the major had been reassigned. They're held without bond.
His sister, Carolyn Blake, was arrested at her home in Sunnyvale for allegedly helping the couple accept and deposit money in off-shore accounts.
Blake is free on bail.
